Your story whenever and however you are comfortable starting is where we will begin.
Our Time
-
Individual
This is your time curated and catered just for you and your unique needs at this moment. During therapy sessions in general it is typical to talk about the critical issues and concerns in your current situation and/or your past. Our sessions typically last 45-50 minutes. If you are self pay and are going through a particularly difficult period you may request more time per session or more than one session per week, otherwise your time is dictated by your insurance provider. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue or longer-term, addressing more complex issues, as well as ongoing personal growth. I often suggest to journal, track changes, review reading material or helpful videos. But if you don’t do it or don’t like this type of homework, no worries we will work with where you are.

Teens
Teens are some of my favorites! They really require a unique approach. When working with children and especially teens there are situations in which parental involvement is regularly necessary and there are times where less parental input may be more beneficial for the treatment progress. Each situation is unique. Parents should take comfort in the fact that I will always involve parents when situations require it. It is my role to assist in building the communication bridge between you and your child so encouragement of this is strongly valued. Trust and privacy are a critical part of any therapeutic relationship including working with adolescents. This affects how much your child will allow themselves to relax and be open in the session. This type of therapeutic relationship will be discussed in detail in the first session.

Relationships
Sometimes, when we argue over who left the watermelon out, we are not talking about the watermelon at all! I prefer to meet with partners together this encourages that the focus is always on the couple and healing the relationship. Counseling takes work and commitment to change from everyone regardless of the presenting issues. Those who are the most successful schedule sessions consistently for a period of time and continue to come intermittently for a longer period of time for support and maintenance of their new growth. Some who are in relationship counseling are encouraged to seek their own individual counseling as well to support the therapeutic progress. This is optional and is up to each person to decide their needs. Some come in for just three or four sessions to address a specific concern which is also a very realistic option depending on the presenting concern.
Don’t struggle through it alone.
Got questions?
I always try to answer them.
How much will it cost?
I do accept a variety of insurance and employment assistance programs. Many clients choose to pay for their counseling without involving insurance companies. To have therapy services covered under insurance, you must provide some personal information about your treatment and a diagnosis to the insurance company. If you want to avoid this exposure, if you do not have insurance or I do not take your specific insurance my rates are $125 for individuals and $150 for couples.
What is the first appointment like?
The first appointment is like an “Ice Breaker” visit. Because we have never met before, this appointment is for us to get to know each other. There will also be information sharing such as fees, scheduling, privacy, and general information on how things work. If you have had counseling before we may jump in a little quicker and if you feel comfortable with some history questions about your life and what you want to work on. If you have not had counseling before we may take things a little slower.
Why would I choose self pay over insurance if I have insurance?
As a private paying client, you can be assured of the following: No contact needed or information exchanged with a third-party payer (i.e., insurance company, billing company). More flexibility to choose your services based on the needs and values you desire. More flexibility to determine your length of treatment and care. These are loaded sentences, but believe me have a big impact.
Do you offer in person or telehealth?
Both! There are times where it may be best to use one or the other. Health, safety, vacation, transportation, convenience, business travel, scheduling conflicts, and comfort are all great reasons to use telehealth for flexibility. If you are self pay you have more flexibility in choosing your own adventures. Due to the pandemic in person sessions are reserved for high risk clients only at this time with hopes to return to more in person as soon as possible.
